Three Sheet Ghosts with Sunglasses

Welcome and thank you for being interested in some of the traditions that make up Halloween as we all know it. The lore around Halloween began so very long ago and still captures the imagination of so many even today. Imagination and the draw to learn how these traditions came about, is how this project came about. This is the page where you can find answers to some of the questions I receive from amazing users like you! I hope you find what you are looking for here.

Why should we care about Halloween?

Besides Halloween being a beloved holiday for the young an old, Halloween is history! If you read any of the pages before this, you are aware of just some of the rich history this mysterious holiday has to show.

Are these 'stories' real?

Reality is in the eye of the beholder. History used to be told orally and passed around campfires. Then we learned more when missionaries wrote in journals of the tales they heard when visiting some of these same fires. As that progressed into what you are reading here on the internet. Most of these stories started out as truth, and through multiple retellings it is likely they have been added too.

Do you really hate Candy Corn?

YES! I truely think it is like eating wax!

Do you celebrate Samhain or Halloween?

Personally, this author loves Halloween!

Was Candy Corn really originally called "Chicken Feed"?

YES! It was later called Candy Corn for its resemblance to corn, which is chicken feed.

So I watched a show once and Samhain was a person. Was he?

While it might make for good tv, Samhain is a festival for the harvest, not a person then or now. It is still celebrated today around the world.

Do people really carve things that are not pumpkins on Halloween?

Yes! There is a well known competition held every year in Florida for carving the best pineapple.

Are there other festivals like Samhain?

Yes. Pagan or Gaelic festivals include: Yule/Winter Soltice, Imbolc/Candlemas, Ostara/Spring Equinox, Bealtaine/May Day, Litha/Summer Soltice, Lughnasadh/Lammas, Mabon/Autumn Equinox.

Are there other holidays with Pagan orgins?

Historically yes. Christmas, New Years Day, Easter, and Three Kings Day to name a few.

Will any of the other Pagan influenced holidays be featured?

You never know. I have many projects still to complete. I tend to do them in time with the seasons.

Where is the biggest Halloween celebration in the world?

The largest celebration is in Salem, Massachusetts in the United States.

Can I send you Candy Corn to try?

Please don't! I have tried many versions and I've always came to the same waxy conclusion.
